Aboriginal Employment Opportunities (AEO)

Objective
The Aboriginal Employment Opportunities is a program designed to provide unemployed Miawpukek Band members with employment opportunities through which they can gain work experience to improve long term employment prospects with specific industries and/or employers.



Achieving Our Goal
Employers in the private and public sectors who acknowledge and agree to participate in support of the principle and objective outlined above may be selected as TEDD partners on behalf of Miawpukek Mi'kamawey Mawiomi and take on the employer roles and responsibilities associated with AEO.



Program
The aboriginal Employment Opportunities encourages employers to hire elgible Miawpukek Band members to work within their organization for a negotiated period as part of the participant's on-the-job training. During this time, the individual would enhance their employment skills by learning new tasks while receiving Part II non-insured bebefits up to $413.00 per week. The participants would gain valuabe work experience that will improve their long-term goals.



Elgible Applicants

  • Registered member of Miawpukek Mi'kamawey Mawiomi;
  • Have an established EI claim or had an EI claim within the last 3 to 5 years;
  • Currently seeking employment;
  • Have not accessed the AEO activitiy within the last two years; and
  • Native and non-Native businesses or organizations



Income Support To The Participant(s)
The successful participant(s) under AEO will receive non-insurable earnings up to $413.00 per week for the negotiated job training period. Travel costs associated with the term will be paid to the participant in accordance to the current TEDD student student travel rate. All income support will be paid directly to the participant, no payment will be made to the partners business.



Roles and Responsibilities
The participant is expected to comply with the employer's employee human resources policies and procedures upon the commencement of the job-training placement for the entire funding period. If the participants have an established Employment Insurance EI claim, they are required to terminate their EI claim for the duration of the AEO activity. Once the AEO activity has ended, the participant may reactivate their EI claim by resubmitting an EI application (if Applicable). In addition, the participant will be required to complete an evaluation of the AEO activity.

The employer shall agree to hire successful participants for the entire negotiated period under the AEO. The employer will assign a supervisor and report a description of activities performed by the participant after the completion date of the job-training period.



Method of Payment
Training and Economic Development will administer the non-insurable benefits up to $413.00 per week for the duration of the AEO.



Application Process
On the ocassion that TEDD partners with an employer under the AEO, our office will be posting the employment opportunity on the local community channels for recruitment. The application deadline date will also be noted. Interested individuals will be required to submit a resume along with a cover letter to TEDD. The employers who partner with TEDD will make the final selection from the applications submitted.



Accountability
Each participant will be required to complete an evaluation to provide feedback on the activities performed to ensure that the goals and objectives of the AEO have been met.
